Job Description / Duties

Are you a community connector? Are you someone with lived experience of homelessness? Or have you dealt with the challenges of housing insecurity? Are you interested in the role that data and information about Indigenous homelessness have in providing culturally safe, quality and affordable services?

The research team is looking for people who share similar life experiences to participants accessing Indigenous homelessness or housing services. This may mean you have lived experience and/or understanding of issues related to diversity, inequality, stigma, discrimination and self-care. People with first hand experience are an essential part of the research project and have a vital role as Community Co-researchers (community-based research team member).

The Aboriginal Housing Management Association (AHMA) and Resilience Planning are inviting collaboration with ten (10) Community Co-researchers. Resilience Planning, as consultant to the BC Indigenous Homelessness Strategy Steering Committee, is undertaking a research project to understand the state of knowledge of Indigenous homelessness in British Columbia.

The Community Co-researchers will work closely with Resilience Planning, the research consultants conducting this study. Community Co-researchers will primarily be responsible for gathering and sorting community-based research data relating to the Indigenous Homelessness Strategy Data Collection and Recommendations. Community Co-researchers will ensure data is collected in a clear and concise way, both in communities (e.g. interviews and focus groups) and virtually across the province (e.g. online survey).

Training in data governance and data sovereignty and collection techniques, and technical equipment will be provided for the project.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Requirements:
Comfortable with overall computer use and navigation:
• Comfortable working on a computer or iPad/tablet
• Spreadsheet and word processing programs
• Email and video-conferencing skills
• (further training will be provided, though comfort and experience is an asset)
Effective verbal, listening and writing communication skills
Attention to detail and well-organized
Decision making skills
Relationship building skills
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
Ability to complete tasks with minimal supervision
Able to work flexible hours
Ability to handle confidential information appropriately
Lived experience and/or understanding of issues related to diversity, inequality, stigma, discrimination and self-care

Additional Information

Job Type: up to 10 Part-Time Community Co-researcher Positions
Rate of pay: $40/hour (maximum 23.5 hours / 3 months = up to 7.5 hours per month)

Job Location: Community Co-researchers will be hired from around the province of BC and will work as a team from home locations using tele-video conference. One Community Co-researcher for each region:
• Prince Rupert or Fort St. John
• Haida Gwaii
• Kamloops
• Cranbrook
• Lillooet
• Alkali Lake or Blue River
• Vancouver Coastal
• Surrey/Chilliwack
• Mission
• Victoria
• Campbell River or Courtenay

Salary: $40/hour (maximum 23.5 hours / 3 months = up to 7.5 hours per month)
