Job Description / Duties

Media Relations
• Research and recommend new and emerging media outlets to target, including blogs, online sites, and
community papers etc.
• Escort media while onsite and assist reporters in news gathering at UGM, while also protecting
UGM’s guests from unwanted media attention and safeguarding the anonymity of UGM’s clientele
• Assist, on-site, for all major meals & media events
• Maintain a current list of all relevant reporters, editors and news desk contact information including
names, phone numbers, email addresses and Twitter handles in all municipalities where UGM
operates.
• Share relevant news stories, UGM related content and information for internal dissemination, on
UGM’s intranet system (The Hub).
• Participate in weekly & monthly media monitoring and reporting, including news media surveillance,
measurement, and analysis.
• Monitor media outlets for Manager, Media Relations & Communications to ensure UGM is always
aware of what’s happening in the public forum as it pertains to homelessness, addiction, and poverty.
• Conduct research on current, or proposed, government policies and/or legislation that may impact
the work of UGM – locally, provincially, and nationally.
• Fact-check documents used for internal and external communications
Communications
• Support internal communications with survey development & deployment
• Assist with content creation for internal communications projects
• Update & disseminate internal ‘case for support’ documents and key fact sheets.
• Support the communications team on projects beyond media relations that benefit the organization
and community (Land Acknowledgement, as an example, or other comprehensive projects) as
overseen by the Manager of Media Relations and Communications.
• Assist the Marketing Communications Team as necessary and as assigned, by sourcing story ideas,
guest features, writing copy, writing social media content, etc.
• Maintain an up-to-date list of potential story ideas, as part of the departments strategic planning and
annual communications.
• Maintain Communications Content Management System and ensure it is up to date

• Other duties as assigned.
General
