Position Summary
Reporting to the Head of Finance, the Accounting Officer provides support to the Finance team. Key duties and responsibilities include completing tasks related to the financial operation of the Society such as tenant rent collection and reconciliation, posting rent income into Accpac, providing support workers for rent management, management of comfort account, and issuing refund cheques. The Officer may also be asked to update and keep current Lookout’s financial and accounting data and records including journal/ledger entries, checking, coding and entering accounts payable, accounts receivable and the general ledger. The Officer is also responsible for related filing and to maintain an organized and clean work space.
Job Duties
The majority of communication will be internal and is with Program Managers and designates, program staff assigned financial tasks as well as the Executive Director. The position will have limited external communications with funding bodies, and be required to provide written reports for internal purposes, funders and public distribution. Provides regular written reports to the Senior Accountant and Director of Finance. Communications can be sensitive and the Officer must utilize a thorough knowledge of the Society & GAAP in addition to strong communication and interpersonal skills to respond effectively to inquiries or to provide direction.
1. Prepares and runs a variety of reports
2. Completes all related filing including pay cheques, invoices, reports, spreadsheets, etc.
3. Year-end working paper files as required.
4. Ensures client rights of privacy and confidentiality are maintained in accord with policy, and as required by law or contractual agreement, except in consultation with the Director of Finance for the proper operation of services.
5. Maintains a current knowledge of and complies with all Lookout policies and procedures.
6. Responsible for complying with and contributing to all aspects of health and safety program.
7. Performs other related duties as assigned by the Senior Accountant or Director of Finance.

Education, Training and Experience
Minimum Grade 12 education plus 2 years training in accounting plus two (2) years of recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Criminal Record Clearance – Vulnerable Sector. Must be bondable. Must maintain current Standard First Aid Training Certificate.

Ability to key 60 w.p.m. Demonstrated communication skills both verbal and written. Ability to manage high workload with multiple priorities. Demonstrated ability to perform work and meet deadlines during significant level of interruptions. Demonstrated good judgement, tact and discretion. Ability to work independently. Excellent organizational skills. Physical ability to perform the duties of the job. Demonstrated ability to operate related equipment including advanced proficiency with personal computers including financial programs ACCPAC, database management, spreadsheet development and word processing.
