Job Description / Duties

In your role as Shelter Shift Supervisor, you are responsible for:
• Providing administrative assistance to the Shelter Manager for the operation of a low barrier, safe and secure shelter for the homeless
• HIFIS data entry on a daily basis
• Incident reports can be daily
• Emergency response due to overdoses, conflicts, mental health and physical health issues
• Collecting and reporting of statistics regarding shelter use and operation, incident reports and maintenance of personnel files under the direction of the Shelter Manager.
• Maintaining a high standard of shelter care and maintenance service that, meets applicable health and safety regulations for any or all facilities, equipment and infrastructure owned and operated by the Vancouver Aboriginal Friendship Center Society / Aboriginal Shelter
• Supervises up to 5 per shift
• Ensure showers cleaned after use and are maintained in a cleanly manner
• Get updates from 90 day guests daily and put in the guest file
• Arrange shift coverage for vacant shifts
• Attend Supervisors meetings
• Ensure tasks and duties are completed properly by double checking the work of staff on shift

Qualifications / Required Skills

Experience and Qualifications:
• A High School Diploma (or equivalent), with a minimum of 2 years related work experience
• First Aid Level 1, FOODSAFE, WHIMIS and Non-violent Crisis Intervention Certificates are required
• Sound knowledge of the Downtown Eastside and Urban Indigenous experience
• Ability to work with people who have been or are homeless
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and written
• Compassion, empathy, resourcefulness, flexibility, and adaptability
• A strong sense of team ethics, dedication, and professionalism
• A valid Driver’s License (Class 4 or 5) is an asset

Additional Information


Working Conditions:
• Able to regularly lift items as heavy as 50 lbs.
• Required to join the BC Government and Services Employee Union (BCGEU)
• Required to work 2 days a week

Salary: Salary: Step 1 - $22.17 / Step 2 (After 450 hours) - $22.93/ Step 3 (After 1874 hours) – $25.48
