Senior Accountant – Full Time, New Westminster

Organization Structure

Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Senior Accountant performs a variety of advanced accounting, budgeting, and reporting functions.

Summary of Responsibilities

The incumbent exercises considerable independent judgement in planning and performing the work, requiring the ability to meet tight deadlines and set priorities, conduct complex financial analysis, and provide professional advice and guidance to the public, staff, management, and senior executives.

The Senior Accountant works in accordance with the mission, values, principles and philosophy of Lookout Housing and Health Society, including following Lookout’s Code of Ethics as well as completing work in a manner which meets Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and practices. The job functions are complex in nature, requiring a high degree of confidentiality and concentrated mental and written attention.

Communications

Internal and External

The majority of communication will be internal and will involve program managers and designates, as well as executive directors. The position will have external communications with funding bodies and must provide written reports for internal purposes, funders and public distribution. Provides recommendations on process improvements and regular written reports to the Director of Finance and CFO. Communications can be sensitive, and the Senior Accountant must utilize a thorough knowledge of the Society & GAAP and strong communication and interpersonal skills to respond effectively to inquiries or provide direction.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial statements.
• Leverage existing accounting software to enhance reporting metrics.
• Troubleshoots, reviews, analyzes, documents and evaluates financial business processes and provides recommendations for improvement.
• Assist with all budget and forecasting requirements and monitor activities.
• Research and provide recommendations on accounting and compliance issues.
• Assist with maintaining data and accounting dashboards and internal report requirements for accurate and timely analysis for decision-making and operational improvements.
• Prepare ad hoc reports and analyses, including cost and revenue analysis, graphs, reconciliations, and cash flow monitoring.
• Maintain and implement relevant internal controls, policies, and procedures.
• Assist the Director of Finance with contract compliance, funder and external audits, and ensure compliance with CRA requirements.
• Provide cross-training and support for all accounting functions when needed.
• Assist the Director of Finance in preparing documents and interpreting complicated financial information for managers, directors, and executives.
• Complete ad hoc projects as the Director of Finance and CFO requested.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Qualifications:

Education, Training and Experience

• A recognized professional accounting designation (CPA) or near completion of the CPA program.
• Strong technology and systems experience (Advanced knowledge in Excel is required)
• Experience with SAP and other advanced ERP systems is an asset.
• Minimum five (5) years of progressive and diversified accounting experience, including exposure to financial reporting, budgeting, payroll, and accounts payable and receivable processes.
• Supervisory experience within the last five (5) years or leadership training is ideal.
• Knowledge of the ASNPO is an asset, but not required.

• Physical ability to perform the duties of the job.
• Demonstrated ability to operate related equipment, including advanced proficiency with financial software, data management, and Excel systems.

Salary: $78,155 - $87,924 per year
