Title: Rent Bank Worker
Status: Permanent Full-Time
Location: Kamloops, BC
Hours: 35 hrs/week
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM, 30 minutes unpaid lunch.

We are recruiting a Rent Bank Worker to join our growing non-profit organization, driven by feminist values.

Reporting to the Housing Program Manager, the Rent Bank Worker processes and maintains records of applications for loans to assist with rent & shelter-related costs. The worker also provides financial literacy support to Rent Bank clients.

Key Responsibilities
• Interviews and verifies eligibility requirements of Rent Bank applications based upon predetermined criteria, assists clients in completing the application process.
• Provides financial literacy training to Rent Bank clients and community members, using approved sourced training modules and materials.
• Adapts practices to suit individual client needs with approved resources as needed.
• Supports clients in maintaining financial stability, including advocating on behalf of clients, providing referrals, and taking action such as assisting clients with personal income taxes and helping them access government programs and benefits.
• Provides Rent Bank “request for approval” documentation to the loans committee & communication for the approval process.
• Works with the Housing Programs Manager to maintain AFT (automatic fund transfer) and ensures the appropriate approval process is in place for the process of loan payments. Reports issues to supervisor.
• With direction from the Housing Programs Manager tracks and records loan payments and NSFs (non-sufficient funds), contacts clients regarding NSFs.
• Maintains excel payment report monthly & submits to the supervisor
• Liaises and networks with other service providers to be up to date on community resources to provide referrals to support Rent Bank clients’ needs.
• In consultation with the Housing Programs Manager, creates and presents reports to Rent Bank Advisory Committee meetings.
• Attends the BC Rent Bank bi-weekly caseworker meetings.
• Compiles monthly statistics and prepares monthly reports with the Housing Programs Manager for submission to the Program Manager.
• Advises landlords and clients of their rights and responsibilities with the Residential Tenancy Act.
• Provides valuable feedback for improvements needed in keeping training manuals up-to-date.
• In consultation with the Housing Programs Manager, attends and takes minutes at Rent Bank Advisory Committee Meetings.
• Other duties as required.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Requirements
• Diploma in an area related to community and/or social services or bookkeeping
• 1-year related experience
• Or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
• Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
• Planning and organizational skills.
• Skills for a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs including Microsoft Excel
• Ability to learn and confidently use varying technological software platforms.
• Effective time management and planning skills
• Ability to work as a team member, and with a high degree of self-reliance and independence.
• Aptitude for maintaining sensitivity towards cultural, religious, economic & social beliefs, values & opinions.
• Motivation to seek continuous professional improvement.
• Attention for protecting the confidentiality of all Society, staff, and client information.
