Peer Coordinator, Part Time Temporary – The Village – Duncan, BC

Position Summary

The Peer Coordinator reports to the Program Manager, or designate. The position works in accordance with the mission and philosophy of Lookout Housing and Health Society including following Lookout’s Code of Ethics. The primary purpose of the position is to oversee the day-to-day operations and support the "Place To Be" daytime drop-in center and area. This operation provides a space for Duncan's unhoused population during the day. It offers a cooling/warming station, daily meals, and support. The Peer Coordinator provides services for individuals with substance use, concurrent disorders and/or mental health issues and complex challenges related to health, homelessness and poverty. The Peer Coordinator has lived experience, similar to ICMT clients being served, and acts as a resource to the team, and assists individuals as identified in the care plan. Additionally, they will assist with duties in relation to orienting, training, scheduling, monitoring, and providing feedback and support to staff. The Peer Coordinator will interact with staff, the public, other service agencies and professionals involved in the support of the individual.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Qualifications:

• Post-secondary education, preferably in the Social Services or Health fields, or comparable experience
• Two (2) years of experience working in the community social services sector and in a unionized environment
• Experience with scheduling, payroll, budgeting, and human resources is an asset
• Demonstrated knowledge of income assistance, affordable housing, and health resources
• An Occupational First Aid Level 1 Certificate is required along with a Criminal Record Clearance for the Vulnerable Sector
• Must have two doses of COVID 19 Vaccine
• Must have class five and access to own vehicle

Skills and Abilities:

• Strong collaborative approach to delivering and developing programs and services
• Proven ability to lead and work with a staff team in a unionized environment
• Demonstrated experience collecting program statistics and delivering reports
• Strong time management skills with the ability to manage a workload with multiple priorities
• Proven communication and conflict resolution skills
