Job Description / Duties

Main Purpose and Function
The Manager, Coordination & Strategic Initiatives reports into and provides business planning and project coordination support for the Managing Director, Social Operations. This position coordinates projects such as Departmental metrics, process improvements, coordinated planning, and facilitates the timely and accurate flow of relevant business information across Social Operations centres with a focus on efficiency, effectiveness, and strategic planning. The Manager, Coordination & Strategic Initiatives also provides research, analysis, data stewardship, reporting, and project management expertise in accomplishing Social Operations goals and objectives.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities
- Provides project coordination and project delivery support to the Managing Director, Social Operations.
- Leads the development and implementation of business performance management tools and measurement systems to facilitate and support operations.
- Determines and executes key project initiatives that will drive business operations.
- Assists in preparing strategic plan and work plans by analyzing trends and forecast.
- Develops and maintains effective relationships that lead to a thorough understanding of current and emerging business needs and contribute to the business’ strategic and operational goals and plans.
- Develops and implements best practices to meet business objectives.
- Coordinates administrative processes to ensure consistent approaches, support coordinated responses to City-wide process such as work-planning and reporting.
- Leads the development of the project tracking system to track and monitor the progress of actions, tasks and work streams towards delivering the operational goals and objectives.
- Coordinates and works with operational teams to improve business processes and planning methods.
- Identifies business operational problems and provide recommendations for improvements.
- Plans and develops project charter templates, implementation plan templates, program evaluation templates, and reporting mechanism templates.
- Supports business direction and needs and develop solutions, roadmaps and assessment of potential business impacts.
- Other duties/responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- University graduation in Business Administration, Finance, Commerce or other related area.
- Five (5) years experience as a business manager or relevant managerial role, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of strategic orientation and business acumen with a thorough knowledge of business processes.
- Leadership skills and the ability to make sound decisions.
- Skilled at business planning, business analysis, business case preparation and evaluation.
- Skilled at project management and organization skills, including attention to detail.
- Skilled at identifying and promoting opportunities to improve existing processes and procedures.
- Ability to work under pressure in meeting deadlines and changing priorities.
- Abilities in written communication, verbal communication and presentation skills.
- Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to concurrently manage multiple tasks and competing priorities.
- Ability to work independently and within a variety of work teams.
- Proficiency in office productivity tools and technology.

Additional Information

Where operationally appropriate and subject to change, the City of Vancouver has a Flexible Work Program. This program allows staff to work remotely 1 – 4 days a week from locations that are a daily commutable distance from their work at a City worksite. At this time this position is eligible to be part of the Flexible Work Program.
