DESCRIPTION:Residents in homeless shelters and transition homes often hav
 e extensive trauma histories.  In this training participants will learn
  about the effects of trauma on the individual and about the behaviours 
 that typically arise in coping with these effects.  We will discuss wha
 t it means to be trauma-informed and how to integrate this knowledge int
 o everyday interactions and into facility procedures and practices.  Pr
 oviding Trauma-informed Care is critical to helping individuals move thr
 ough the barriers to healing.  The role that service providers play in 
 this healing journey will also be explored. \n\n \n\nInstructor: Kathe
 rine Aubrey \n\n \n\nKatherine has over 20 years of experience working
  with people who have faced trauma, addictions, mental health issues and
  risk for homelessness. Her varied, frontline work experience ranges fro
 m in-reach prison work, group therapy, parole supervision, child & youth
  care work and addictions and mental health counselling. She has been an
  instructor with Homelessness Services Association of BC (formerly Shelt
 ernet BC) for 14 years. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminology
  and Psychology and a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology with special
 ization in Mental Health Counselling.
