DESCRIPTION: Residents in homeless shelters and transition homes often h
 ave extensive trauma histories.  In this training participants will lea
 rn about the effects of trauma on the individual and about the behaviour
 s that typically arise in coping with these effects.  We will discuss w
 hat it means to be trauma-informed and how to integrate this knowledge i
 nto everyday interactions and into facility procedures and practices.  
 Providing Trauma-informed Care is critical to helping individuals move t
 hrough the barriers to healing.  The role that service providers play i
 n this healing journey will also be explored. \n\nInstructor:\n\nKather
 ine Aubrey has over 20 years of experience working with people who have 
 faced trauma,\naddictions, homelessness and/or mental illness. Her varie
 d, front-line work experience ranges\nfrom in-reach prison work, group t
 herapy, parole supervision and addictions and mental health\ncounseling.
  She also has experience working with people experiencing violence. Some
  of her past and current employers include Correctional Service Canada, 
 Longterm\nInmates Now in the Community, Aurora Centre/Residential Addict
 ions Treatment for\nWomen, KlaHowEya, Metis Nation and numerous non-prof
 it organizations. She has a Bachelor\nof Arts degree in Criminology and 
 Psychology and a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology with\nspecializat
 ion in Mental Health Counseling. She also completed a Cross-Cultural Fac
 ilitation\nSkills Intensive for Diversity Trainers in Berkley, Californi
