SUMMARY:In Person: Practical Harm Reduction & Drug Poisoning Response
DESCRIPTION:-- Victoria, BC  --\n\n-- In Person Training Description:  
 --\n\nThis hands-on training equips frontline workers with practical ski
 lls for applying harm reduction in real-world settings and responding ef
 fectively to drug poisonings and other substance-related emergencies. Pa
 rticipants will build confidence in overdose recognition and response, n
 aloxone administration, safer use education, and communicating during cr
 isis situations.  \n\nThe session will also explore emerging substance
 s in the toxic drug supply, including non-opioid drugs that do not respo
 nd to naloxone, and how workers can adapt their response approaches. Par
 ticipants will learn practical techniques for responding to common emerg
 encies and supporting basic wound care in outreach and shelter environme
 nts. \n\nGrounded in frontline experience and harm reduction practice, 
 this training focuses on realistic scenarios and skill-building to help 
 workers respond with confidence, compassion, and safety.  \n\nParticip
 ants will gain practical skills in: \n\n* Overdose recognition and nalo
 xone response \n\n* Safer use education and overdose prevention \n\n* 
 Responding to drug poisonings, including non-opioid substances \n\n* Ma
 naging common substance-related emergencies \n\n* Basic wound care in f
 rontline settings  \n\n-- Instructor: Corey Ranger  --\n\nInstructor
  Bio:  Based in unceded Quw’utsun Territory, Corey Ranger (he/him) i
 s an uninvited settler on these lands. Corey is a registered nurse with 
 extensive experience in street outreach, community, and public health nu
 rsing with additional training in project management and quality impro
 vement. Corey has focused primarily on harm reduction since 2013 beginni
 ng in Alberta and now in British Columbia. At present, Corey is the Clin
 ical Director at AVI Health & Community Services, President of the Harm 
 Reduction Nurses Association, a board of directors at Canadian Drug Poli
 cy Coalition (CDPC), and the North American Representative for the Membe
 rs' Advisory Council (MAC) with the International Drug Policy Consortium
  (IDPC). \n\nRecommended Pre-Learning: \n\nThis course assumes a basi
 c working knowledge of harm reduction theory; participants are encour
 aged to complete any of the following recommended pre-learning (linked b
 elow) to support shared understanding and practical application.  \n\
