Supporting People to Make Changes in their lives that focuses specifically on the science of addictions and how to manage your support and expectations around that, whether its clients, colleagues, friends or family members. Understanding the science behind addictions and incorporating the latest research can help us shape our approaches in a trauma informed, evidence based way.
This course is offered in Term 2.
Instructor: Dr Heather Fulton
Instructor Bio: Dr. Heather Fulton, a Registered Psychologist and Director of Wayfinder Wellness Centre, works at the intersection of mental health and substance use. She is a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers and is certified in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Seeking Safety (a treatment for trauma, substance use, or both), and Invitation to Change (an evidence-informed approach for family members to support loved ones with substance use challenges). She is a Clinical Assistant Professor in The Department of Psychiatry and an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Psychology at UBC.
