Workshop Description:
Improving Safety in All Gender Spaces is a workshop designed to navigate challenging conversations around safety for people of diverse gender experiences. “The term ‘people of diverse gender experiences’ is intended to include anyone of traditionally marginalized genders. This includes cis women, as well as all trans, Two Spirit, nonbinary, or alternate gender identifying people along the gender spectrum excluding cisgender men. Individuals within these groups experience gender and violence in different, nuanced ways.
This workshop is broken up into six different sections cultivating knowledge around diverse communities, decolonizing gender identities, building gender affirming spaces, understanding levels of oppression and gender based violence, recognizing harms of help, learning an ethical decision making framework, becoming an ally, and working through real life scenarios. This workshop includes twenty practical tips for improving safety in all gender spaces, how to do an equity walk through in your space, and how to build inclusive intake forms.
This workshop will answer the question, ‘How do we improve safety for people of diverse gender experiences in all-gender spaces?”
